So I hear blogging is the new way to stay in contact with friends and family, gone our the days of snail mail, phone calls, and even email. So I decided to give it a try, we’ll see how long I can keep up! HA.
So I thought the best place to start would be the purchase of our home, since that’s what seems to consume us now. Then I will try to keep up on a weekly basis.
Ready? Hold your excitement…. here we go
Only July 10, 2008, we bought our first home. It’s a beautiful 2 story white stone home with a little over 2000 square feet. The house was in move-in condition but we wanted to change a few things, so slowly but surely we have been working on making it our own and try to fill the big thing.
Remi loves his backyard, he runs and chases after imaginary prey, rolls in the grass, and loves his sprinklers. He really is having a ball out there. This is a pictures from his first experience with the sprinklers. He loved it, his own personal water park:)We also bought a water system from Petsmart which you connect to the water spout, you train your dog to hit it with their nose and water comes out. It’s very cool. Remi learned how to use it within minutes, such a smart boy. Now he gets as much fresh water as he wants when he wants.
But apparently that “imaginary prey” that Remi loves to chase turned out not to be so imaginary on July 16th. He found a big chicken snake in our yard and chased it up into one of our trees. James couldn’t get him down so we left him, haven’t seen him since. Snakes in the city, who knew.
We bought a mower and trimmer on the 17th and James mowed our swamp grass. When you find snakes in your grass you know you have high swamp grass:) Remi did not like the mower and chased it around the yard as he mowed. Now he is used to it and just likes to help Daddy mow. I also worked in my flower beds, I think there are more weeds than flowers. They still are pretty shabby. James doesn’t place a monetary value on pretty flower beds so that hasn’t been worked into our budget yet. If you love me you will send me flowers…. ha.
James loves being able to cook out and he does it about once a week, he is a better cook than me and he loves to do it. Remi helps with the leftovers, those rib bones sure are tasty!
Home Improvements: Here is what we have done so far….
-Sold breakfast room chandler and replaced it with the one in the dining room
-Put the chandelier Catherine gave us for a wedding present up in the dining room
-Replaced the kitchen and living room curtains, sold the old ones
-Sold the baseball ceiling fan from the guest bedroom and replaced it with an adult fan, James also rewired the switch so the light and fan are separate
-James fixed the outside spot lights and added more
-Painted the 1/2 bath green
-Painted our bedroom a dark tan/brown
-Installed new kitchen cabinet hardware
-Replaced the master bath hardware
-Hung curtains in every room but we still haven’t replaced the dining room curtains
September 8th – Our big beautiful new sofa arrived! You can seat an army on this thing plus it’s comfortable and stain resistant.
A couple of days later our coffee table and end table arrived, not pictured here. They are both a dark cherry finish and round. I also bought throw pillows which are a deep candy apple read with gold stitching filled with down feathers. Pretty and comfortable.
Remi doesn’t quit know what to think of the huge thing that has taken over his living room. We don’t let me on it, like we did with our last one. But he doesn’t seem to mind and doesn’t even try. We do catch him licking it sometimes, I don’t know what that’s all about! We moved our old sofa into the dining room since we have no dining room furniture and it was empty anyway. Remi thinks that room and sofa are now just for him. He goes and lays on his sofa (head on pillow of course), looks out the huge front windows and people/squirrel/bird watches. Yes we actually call it his sofa now.
He loves Barking at anyone or anything that come too close to his house. I have to say he is a very happy and pampered little guy. Can you believe James is the one who wanted a dog, I agreed of course but never thought I would like him very much. Now I’m the one who takes him with me to the bank and Chick-fil-A drive-thru because they give out treats, I’m the one who bakes him liver brownies, banana biscottis, and peanut better ice cream; yes I really do bake for the dog, and I’m the one who loves to take him to play at the dog park, I’m the one who washes his face every night while he drinks my bath water (that’s not as gross as it sounds..well maybe it is), and I’m the one that pampers that dog like he is my first born! I can’t stand when people ask why we keep a dog inside the house or make fun of us for pampering him. He is like a person to us and always will be and I wish those people would just live their own lives and not worry about what I do with mine. Ok, that was my soap box for today… in other words don’t bad mouth my kid:)
Speaking of Remi, he has a new favorite activity. We call it dog biking. We take him with us on bike rides, his favorite part being when we say Mush and he gets to pull us. Too funny… look for the video on YouTube.
So that’s it, 2 months are our lives neatly summed up in a few paragraphs.
More to come in the exciting adventures of The Mareks…stayed tuned.
